Things were quiet on the river while a U.S. Coast Guard Defender-class boat cruised the probably not so high risk security area San Bernard on Saturday, September 12th. It traveled from Station Freeport located in Surfside, inland of the Freeport Jetties. The U.S. Coast Guard, founded in 1790, is one of the five armed forces of the United States and the only military organization within the Department of Homeland Security since 2003.
Parties eating on the outside deck at 2J’s restaurant were relieved to see the boat did not have its .50-caliber machine gun mounted on the bow when it tied up in front at the riverside dock. Its seven person crew treated several children to a tour of the boat before disembarking for a meal. "Semper Paratus – Always Ready!"
