Escape to the Tropics Fundraiser
Posted on Sep 12th, 2014
Surf’s up on the San Bernard River when the Friends of the River (FOR) San Bernard “Escape to the Tropics” island-style party is held on Saturday, October 4, from 6:00 - 11:00 pm. The island fever fundraiser will be held under a huge party tent at the FOR Community Center, 20450 CR 510-B, located on the east bank of the river, a mile south of the FM 521 bridge, three miles west of Brazoria.
Upon arrival, you will hear the sound of steel drums, have a welcoming lei placed around your neck and a serving of special island punch placed in your hand. Enjoy a meal of roasted pig and other tropical dishes, followed by a live auction. Music by Vinyl Revival and dancing on an outdoor dance floor close out the night. Cost is $20 a ticket. Order tickets by phone from Marilyn at 979-482-0368 or they can be purchased at the door if not sold out beforehand.
Featured live auction items are two popular FOR San Bernard progressive dinners. A group of six travel by water taxi on the river to four different locations where they enjoy appetizers at the first house, salad at the second, entree at the next, and dessert at the last house. Enjoy libations along the way. Another great auction item is a pair of round trip Southwest Airline tickets with no blackout days or restrictions, valid for one year.
FOR San Bernard is grateful for the generous support and participation of its friends. FOR will pursue its mission of stewardship for the San Bernard River watershed by continuing to offer programs such as river and road cleanups, River Ranger 5th grade watershed education, environmental education presentations, scholarships, advocating for opening the river mouth, and conservation easement.
