San Bernard River Watershed Protection Stakeholders Town Hall Meetings Set
Posted on Sep 29th, 2011

The Houston-Galveston Area Council will host three Open House/Town Hall meetings to present the preliminary San Bernard River Watershed Protection Plan. Funded by an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the Watershed Protection Plan includes recommendations to protect the water quality and to address elevated bacteria concerns in some areas of the San Bernard River.
The public meetings will give residents and other users of the river the opportunity to provide feedback on the watershed protection plan and learn how the plan will affect them, how to prepare for changes and growth in the region, and how to assist their local governments in implementing activities that will help protect water quality in their areas.
The following meetings will be held in Oct.:
Tuesday, October 18 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the Wharton Civic Center Duncan Auditorium; 1924 N. Fulton; Wharton, Texas 77488 (979-532-4811)

Thursday, October 20 from 5:30 p.m.- 7:30 in the W. E. Hill Community Center, 1000 Main Street; Sealy Texas 77474 (979-225-7791)
Tuesday, October 25 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 in the West Columbia Civic Center; 514 E. Brazos Ave.; West Columbia, Texas 77486 (979-345-3123).
Recent watershed planning activities include modeling, recommendations for Best Management Practices, land cover analysis, and causes and sources of pollution for the San Bernard River.
The meetings are open to the public. For more information about the Watershed Protection Plan, please visit www.h-gac.com/go/sanbernard or contact Aubin Phillips, Environmental Planner at H-GAC, aubin.phillips@h-gac.com, 832-681-2524, www.h-gac.com/go/sanbernard.
