F.O.R. Board of Directors Nominees

These are the six nominations for Directors of the Friends Of the River San Bernard Board. The F.O.R. annual public meeting will be held Saturday, September 10, 6:00 p.m., F.O.R. Community Center. You're invited to attend, vote for the director of your choice and hear an update of F.O.R. accomplishments this past year. The bios are presented in no particular order. Agenda
Wayne Head
Wayne lives part-time on the river and is currently on the Board of Directors. He has served as Vice President of the Lions, President of the Rotary, Director Chairman Retail Trade of Chamber of Commerce, Director of American Gem Society, President of Texas Jewelers Association, Director of Jewelers of America, Director of Dallas Market Center, Director and member of Management Committee for F.O. R., and Director for the First Methodist Church. Wayne is a semi-retired owner of a jewelry/gift store. He would like to see the upriver, River Rangers, and S.E.P. educational efforts continue. He would also like to educate and assist property owners along the river in septic manners, educate boaters in safety, and keep our river clean
“As a board member of F.O.R I will be open to questions from members and promise an honest and informed answer to the best of my ability. I will do my best to take care of any issue the board is approached or involved with in a dignified and professional manner.”
Marilyn Shockley
Marilyn currently lives on the river and has served on the Board of Directors for three years. During the past year, she served as secretary on the Board. Marilyn is a realtor in this area. She has been active in the monthly breakfasts, the boat parades, and the river clean-ups.
“I know many people on the river and I keep in contact with them on upcoming events. One of my goals would be to build a stronger relationship with the community and work toward positive projects that the community can relate to and become involved in.”
Tom Valliere
Tom currently lives on the river and he has experience as a FOR Board member. His concerns for the river are to continue the land easements and the Ranger educational efforts, and to develop relationships with elected officials and all others engaged in land use planning especially in upriver communities.
“As co-chair of the environmental committee, I was instrumental in enacting FOR’s first conservation easement and obtaining SEP grant funding. I am founder and owner of a consulting company that advises the electronics industry on environmental issues.”
Vickie Smirch
Vickie lives on the San Bernard and is running for the Board of Directors for the first time. She has attended the breakfasts and boat parades, and volunteered in the river clean-up this past year.
“I was raised in the area and have been on the river since I was about 15-yrs-old. I have a very good rapport with residents, on the river, and I believe in working as a team and making decisions as a team. I have good time management skills and have been a team leader in other organizations. I am a registered nurse and have worked as a Charge Nurse in the most reputable hospitals in the Houston Medical Center. I will be available to help in using my professional experience and skills for Friends of the River.”
Suzanne Goodson
Suzanne currently lives on the San Bernard River and served on the Board of Directors the past 3 years. She served as Vice President the last 2 years, and she is currently on the Community Center and the River Raiser Committees. She provided back-up for the Webmaster, participated in the Boat Parades, Men vs. Women Fishing Tournament, River Clean Up and Adopt-A-Highway road clean up, assisted with the Ranger Program at Wharton Elementary school, prepared the Agenda for the monthly meetings and obtained and prepared the monthly Committee Minutes for the Board members. Whenever there is a task to be done, no matter the committee, she says she is willing to jump in and do what she can to help.

Holly LaChance
Holly currently lives on the river and is running for the Board of Directors for the first time. She served on Lake Jackson Youth Baseball Association for twelve years, and volunteered for the Brazoria Parks for beach clean-ups and Dune’s Day. Holly works for an environmental consulting firm and has fundraising and grant writing skills. She has been a volunteer for five years for the river clean-ups and the boat parades.
“I have a passion and commitment for our environment and for our future, and FOR encompasses my passion.”
