The FOR San Bernard Board of Directors is comprised of fifteen members elected to serve a three-year term. This year’s election will fill two vacating positions on the Board. Candidates do not have to live on the river to be considered for election. Candidates for election must, however, be interviewed and qualified by the Nominating Committee before the annual meeting. The Nominating Committee is made up of the retiring members of the Board and whomever the board may appoint to serve on the Nominating Committee.
President Kirk Wardlaw and Director Jim Cooper are running for re-election of a second three-year term. Directors John Swanson, Bob Bailey, Brett McManus, Sheila Wardlaw, Trey Gilbert, Tom Ronayne, Elena Vasquez and Denise Wolever continue with their term limits.
At the regular July 10th board meeting, Chris Hall and Ana Pogue were appointed and approved to a fill two Director vacancies starting in August. Past president Mike Goodson was appointed and approved to a fill a September Director vacancy.
Chris Hall is a finance and cost management technologist. His family owns property and lives on the river and enjoys taking the family boating. Chris has attended river cleanups in past years with his father-in-law, Larry Vacek. Hall wants to continue the preservation of the river and explore new opportunities to improve—along with continuing to pursue re-opening of the mouth.
Ana Pogue is retired and lives with husband Charlie on the river. Ana has attended FOR annual meetings, participated in the river and highway cleanups, hosted FOR progressive dinners and helped decorate and cleanup the annual fundraiser. She feels it is important to continue educating ways to protect and respect the San Bernard and continue to pursue opening the mouth.
- Two new Director nominees, Phil Brod and Art deTranaltes, are up for election at the annual meeting.
Phil Brod is a Texas windstorm inspector who lives and owns property at Riverview Ranch. His goals for the FOR organization during his three-year term of office is to maintain the integrity of the San Bernard River and its surrounding communities. Also to strengthen the ties and lines of communication with county and municipal representatives. He has participated in the river clean up.
Art deTranaltes is self employed and a permanent resident of the San Bernard as of March 2021. His FOR goals to help preserve the beauty and integrity of the river, meanwhile actively recruit new homeowners to join the organization. He thinks there should be continued involvement with opening the mouth. Art has participated in the monthly breakfasts, highway clean-ups and the annual Christmas boat parade
Speakers at the Annual Meeting include Brazoria County Commissioners Dude Payne and David Linder who will give updates on opening the mouth. Al Roth, River’s End Volunteer Fire Dept, will discuss “Reporting Emergencies”.
“Early bird” $20 tickets will be on sale to the FOR fundraiser “Sail Away on the MV SanBernard”, Sat Oct 1st. It’s a fantasy adventure aboard a fantasy ship on a fantasy cruise. A Port of Call is planned to “Treasure Island” live auction site. Don’t miss the food, fun and friendSHIPS supporting Friends of the River San Bernard.
