Thirty people attended FOR Environmental Committee's third public education program this year, "Fire Safety Along the San Bernard," Sat, July 30th at the FOR Community Center.
A panel of eight volunteer firefighters included Daniel Bean, Chandler Pierce and James Christian from Sweeny VFD, Craig Petersen from Old Ocean VFD, Scott Parker from Brazoria VFD, Chuck Richardson from Wild Peach VFD, Frank Jones from River's End VFD, and Kenny McBride from Jones Creek VFD. Lonny and Cheryl Dirzanowski from Wild Peach VFD provided support from the audience.
Attendees were able to learn which VFD is the primary responder for their home location, see a demonstration of various types of fire extinguishers (remember PASS = pull, aim, squeeze, sweep), and get answers to a variety of questions from the audience regarding smoke alarms, reporting a fire, initial activities to safeguard yourself and your loved ones and mitigate damage to your property, as well as fire prevention tips.
All in attendance expressed their heartfelt thanks to our volunteer emergency responders for the time and out of pocket expenses they donate to the community.
