On Friday, July 12, FOR received an envelope from the Brazoria Post Office stating that the envelope inside had been received unsealed. The envelope was from Blue Bell Ice Cream addressed to FOR. The envelope's end flap was sealed but a portion of the envelope itself had been cut off. The 12 gift certificates, each for a half gallon of ice cream, were gone but the handwritten letter was still enclosed. The gift certificates were a live auction donation to the upcoming October River Regatta fundraiser.  Blue Bell and the post office have been notified. An investigation is in process. Where did the certificates walk-off too?

 

Mon Jul 15 Update:  The Brazoria Post Office said they received the package that was "damaged in handling" so it was placed in an outer envelope and sent on to FOR. Upon discussion with a Brazoria postal clerk, four certificates were located in the building and returned to FOR (eight are still missing). 

 

Wed Jul 17 Update:  Because FOR sent a compaint by email to the United States Postal Service, the Brazoria Post Office Postmaster, who was unaware of the problem, is now looking into it. The taping shut of the open end of the envelope was to be initialed and dated by the postal employee handling it. That was not done.

 

Sat Jul 20 Update: Blue Bell Ice Cream generously replaced the missing eight gift certificates. They were mailed to FOR in a plain unmarked white envelope.
