Unruly Waters of the Brazos
Posted on Jun 7th, 2015

Photos Albert Smith, Rio Vista 6-1-15
June 1, 2015. The mouth of the flooding Brazos River (50’ flood stage) washes out silt and sand from upriver into the Gulf. A very distinct line is seen between the clearer Gulf waters to the right and the cloudy flood waters to the left. The current is flowing down past the closed mouth of the San Bernard.

June 1, 2015. Looking NE of Sargent. The silt line separating the clearer Gulf water from the cloudy flood water is seen in the upper right of photo. This southerly flowing current, even under normal conditions, continually deposits sand and silt at the mouth of the river keeping it closed.
