These reports are a way to let the public know what F.O.R.’s been up to. It’s also a way that someone can determine if there is any way they’d like to get involved in things. Please contact F.O.R. (Use "Volunteer" on the drop down list) if you are interested.

FOR. Environmental Committee members Ken and Linda Wright, Tom Ronayne, and FOR president, Marie Breakiron, attended a "Discovery San Bernard Watershed" meeting in East Bernard on June 22nd.

Texas Colorado River Floodplain Coalition / Texas Water Development Board / FEMA / HALFF
The meeting was an initial step in a project facilitated by the HALFF engineering firm for the Texas Colorado River Floodplain Coalition and funded by a grant from FEMA.
Its purpose was two-fold: first, to educate local residents and community leaders about floodplain data availability, how the National Flood Insurance Program works, and what grant programs are available to improve flood resilience, and second, to gather input from the community regarding flood hazards that may not be currently reflected in the available data.
As the project progresses toward flood mitigation recommendations, FOR will continue to monitor them for their impact on downriver flooding and for compatibility with the San Bernard River Watershed Protection Plan being developed by the Houston-Galveston Area Council.
