F.O.R. Receives Two Commendations

Friends Of the River San Bernard is proud to announce they recently received two service awards. On May 6, 2011, the Texas Department of Transportation presented an award of merit to F.O.R. San Bernard for it’s “outstanding effort and generous contribution of time and energy to maintain the beauty of Texas roadsides through voluntary participation in the Adopt-a-Highway Litter Prevention Program”. F.O.R. volunteers collected trash along a two mile stretch of FM 2918.
On May 17, 2011, the Friends of the River Rangers received a commendation from the Wharton Independent School District Board of Trustees for "their outstanding presentation about the San Bernard Watershed" to Wharton Elementary School fifth graders. The students also received Ranger t-shirts and a packet of information. A drawing was held where rod and reels were awarded to eight of the 142 students attending the program.

Note: The Adopt-A-Highway Committee will be picking up litter on a new section of highway on FM 2611, stretching from CR 311 to FM 2918 (Churchill Bridge area but not on the bridge itself).

These commendations are so very special. The thank you notes from the 5th graders were priceless! F.O.R. volunteers are the heartbeat of this organization. Commendations are a tribute to their dedication and energy. Thank you!
