Annual River Cleanup Planned

Scattered trash in the highlighted area (above Hwy 35 to salt water dam to FM 522 below.) Large items seen in this section of the river noted. Most of the trash is plastic bottles, a few plastic deck chairs and animal mineral buckets. Most of the trash is in piles floating debris along the banks.
FOR San Bernard will hold its annual “Trash Mash River Cleanup” on Sat June 10, from 8:00 am - Noon. A 30-mile stretch of the San Bernard River starting at the salt water dam above Hwy 35 west of West Columbia, to River’s End near the Intracoastal Waterway, is the cleanup area.
Three collection sites will be available to receive river trash only. Sites are located on the river at Hanson Riverside County Park - Hwy 35 boat ramp; McNeill Bridge - FM 521 boat ramp; and Churchill Bridge - FM 2611 boat ramp.
If able, bring a boat to one of the collection locations and you will get directions from the volunteers there. Helpers without boats are welcome and can assist as boat crew members or as "haul out" workers at the ramps. A FOR Hot Dog Social is planned immediately following the clean-up at Noon at the FOR Community Center, 20450 CR 510-B. Come in your dirty duds. Anyone who pitches in will receive a trashy t-shirt.
