May Meeting Report

These reports are a way to let the public know what FOR’s been up to. It’s also a way that someone can determine if there is any way they’d like to get involved in things.   • Sun May 29 FOR Booth at Wine Festival
Thanks to a team of FOR Directors, Sheila Wardlaw Secretary, Brett McManus Asst. Treasurer, and John Swanson Vice President for manning the Friends of the River booth at Sunday’s Wine Festival at River Rendezview. The team handed out free Koozies, shopping bags, cold water and sold FOR flags and polo shirts.
 
  • Tue May 17 Texas Stream Team Water Quality Test on San Bernard
 5-17-22 results
H-GAC Texas Stream Team volunteer Denise Wolever uses a test kit to measure the physical and chemical parameters of San Bernard River. She tests off her pier six miles downstream from Churchill Bridge at CR 469. The test reports the pH level, salinity, temperature, dissolved oxygen and turbidity of the water.
 
  • Sat May 7 Breakfast on the Bernard, Dido’s Restaurant
Twenty-six folks attended the regular first Saturday of the month Breakfast on the Bernard. John Swanson, FOR Vice President filled in for the absent President Kirk Wardlaw. VP Swanson introduced first-time guests including Joe Hoffman, director at the West Brazoria County Drainage District #11, Section 5.
     VP Swanson gave brief updates regarding the results of the environment impact program that will be given at the Sat May 21st, FOR public education program, FOR Community Center; progress with the City of Brazoria WWTP; six $2,000 scholarships awarded; and River Cleanup on Sat Jun 11. Mike Goodson, Mouth Committee chairman, followed up with progress of dredging the mouth.
