Flooding Predicted on San Bernard

Hopefully it won’t rain cats and (on) dogs.
Good news…the water level is dropping on all upstream flood gauges. Bad news…more rain is forecast for the next couple of days. It needs to steer clear of the already full San Bernard watershed.

East Bernard and Boling gauges have crested and Hwy 35 is cresting now, very close to its level in the flood a few weeks ago. The watershed is full from top to bottom so levels will recede very slowly in the coming days. If the river gets heavy rain tomorrow or Saturday, levels could rise again, so property owners should continue to watch the radar and the upriver gauges.

Starting around midnight, a reported 5" of rain fell just below FM 521 causing the river to rise like a rocket overnight to around 13' this am. Watch the amount of rain that falls today and tomorrow on the upper watershed, it will affect this level!

River Residents and Concerned Friends:
Did you just get everything placed back on your dock after removing because of high water two weeks ago? Stay alert cause you may be taking it all off again this Fri May 21st. The river forecast is based on expected rainfall over the next 72 hours..
“The National Weather Service flood warning is extended for the San Bernard River...including Sweeny, East Bernard, Boling...Major flooding is forecast. It will rise to 34.9 feet early Friday afternoon."
Please note that the flood level at Old Ocean Hwy 35 is predicted to crest at 15.5’ at 6 pm Fri May 21st and should crest at 7' to 8' downriver from FM 521, which is similar to level of last flood.
