The M/V Captain Murchison TPWD new patrol boat
Texas Parks & Widlife (TPWD) has a new patrol boat that has yet to be seen on the San Bernard. It’s an 80 x 27-foot seagoing, catamaran, “mouseboat”, waterjet patrol boat named the Captain Murchison. And chances are it probably won’t be seen on the river either, not because its draft is too deep (only 38”) but it’ll stay on larger bodies of water keeping bad boys in check.
In the wheelhouse is an AVX “advanced vessel control” system that features a three-axis (pitch, yaw, roll) controller for low-speed maneuvering and docking where the captain can step out and monitor activities like holding position while the crew secures an illegal fishing long-line in preparation to pulling it in. And to keep everyone safe, there's a place to mount a M240B machine gun when the need calls.
In addition, the Captain Murchison carries a RIB (rigid inflatable boat) on board. The six crew can jump in and in a half a minute it'll drop to the water. When they want to get back on board, a button gets pushed and it is driven into a cradle and lifted back on board. Plus, it travels fast about 34 knots (almost 40 mph).
The price - $4.75 million. Read complete review.
