GOOD NEWS...FOR is excited to announce encouraging news of the opening of the mouth of the San Bernard River. Application for the “Mouth of the San Bernard River Restoration Project” has been approved and funded. The soonest a permit can be issued is this coming August or September. Work scheduled dredging it open will then start Spring 2020 of next year.

It began six years ago, on June 10, 2013 when representatives of Friends of the River San Bernard attended the first meeting of the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council in Galveston, Tx. Then FOR President Wayne Head spoke about reopening the mouth and delivered a booklet of information and photos regarding the closure to the Restoration panel. The following year, 2014, Brazoria County Commissioners applied for RESTORE Act grants, hired a engineering company to work on the river project and because of much effort, six years later, here we are!
