Are you curious about what it takes to be a beekeeper? Do you see bees in your yard? Would you like to know more about how they live and work? Would you like to plant pollinators in your yard? If so, learn about this outdoor hobby that's un-bee-lievably satisfying at the Friends of the River (FOR) San Bernard beekeeping educational program on Sat Apr 13th.
See the components of a beehive and how each is used. Learn how bees reproduce and their individual jobs. See a beekeeper suit! Learn what plants attract pollinators that lend a helping hand in your flowerbed.
When Linda and Shane Pirtle, Class Facilitators, bought their place in Shady Acres near the San Bernard River, they wanted to have bees, primarily for the pollination benefits. Before they moved in, a neighbor came over to meet them. She mentioned that she was moving to Alaska and had four beehives that needed a home, that’s when the Pirtles became bee owners even before they moved in!
