April Meeting Report
Posted on Apr 3rd, 2021
These reports are a way to let the public know what FOR’s been up to. It’s also a way that someone can determine if there is any way they’d like to get involved in things. Please contact FOR if you are interested. (Select WEBMASTER on the CONTACT US drop down list.)
- Apr 7, Intersection of FM 521 and CR 461
Thanks to Brazoria County Precinct 1 Commissioner Dude Payne for installing reflective markers on both sides of the intersection at CR 461 and FM 521 just west of the San Bernard River. The markers dramatically improve visibility for traffic turning off 521 onto 461 as the shoulders there are nonexistent making for a possible dangerous drop-off into the roadside ditch during dark conditions. Also, another thanks to Precinct 1 work crew for clearing drainage ditches on CR 461A.
- Apr 3rd, Breakfast on the Bernard, Dido’s Restaurant
The return of the regular first-Saturday-of-the-month Breakfast on the Bernard took place on Saturday April 3rd. It had been postponed for almost a year since Covid-19 took over. Breakfast was one of the first ever FOR planned events since the beginning of the FOR organization. The breakfast is open to anyone, river resident or friend, who’s interested in hearing what’s happening on the river.
Approximately 25 friends attended and finished off a buffet of scrambled eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, fruit, homemade cinnamon rolls, biscuits and sausage gravy. Two guests at the breakfast were Port Freeport Commissioners Paul Kresta and Dan Croft.
FOR President Kirk Wardlaw announced a Board of Directors meeting on Wed Apr 14th. Additional dates being decided on are the Adopt-a-Highway trash pick up on CR 2611, a June River Clean Up and a Fall Annual Fundraiser.
Wardlaw also thanked the Environmental Committee for receiving a “Special Recognition for Exemplary Environmental Advocacy by a Citizen’s Group” as part of Houston-Galveston Area Council's 2020 “Water Innovation Strategies of Excellence (WISE) Awards”. Environmental Committee Chairman Justin Hillis received the award on behalf of the committee. Tom Ronayne, Environmental Committee member, thanked FOR volunteers Valroy Maudlin and Tim Logan for their two-year effort of collecting water samples for testing with the Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF).
