Approximately 20 attendees listened as Ryan Gerlich of Texas A&M's AgriLife Extension Services presented a program on "septic systems" at the FOR Community Center this past Saturday, April 29th. This is the second of five programs to be sponsored this year by the FOR Environmental Committee. Ryan presented a short history of on site waste disposal and explained how the various systems currently in use, both septic and aerobic, are designed to work. Attendees learned the do's and don'ts of using their systems, as well as recommended maintenance practices for older septic, or "conventional" systems, that aren't required to be professionally maintained. A big "thank you" to Ryan for donating his Saturday to drive down from College Station and teach us how to keep the stuff in our on site sewage systems on site. – FOR Director Tom Ronayne
