Timeline of events on reopening the mouth
Posted on Mar 9th, 2018

Photo Bert Smith, Rio Vista taken Dec 7, 2012 - closed after being dredged open in February, 2009.

This is a timeline of events on reopening the mouth starting in 2013 with the Brazoria County Commissioners resolution to reopen the mouth, to the latest March 8, 2018 event, where Port Freeport Commissioners voted to participate in helping financially with maintenance dredging of the mouth after it's been opened.

Hopefully, the next event posted in the timeline will be that of Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) applying for and receiving RESTORE Act funds from the US Treasury, then awarding to Brazoria County Commissioners who start the project to dredge open the mouth. The Commissioners have been enormously important in getting this project done from start to finish. No date has been given as when that will happen.
