The ship, known as a RORO, an acronym for roll-on/roll-off, has the vehicles loaded and unloaded using the built-in ramp on the stern that lowers allowing the vehicles to be driven on or off. Built in 2005, the mammoth 21,080 ton Alliance St Louis is operated by Höegh Autoliners and owned by Alliance Navigation.
Port Freport exports GM to the Middle East, imports Buicks from Korea and imports "high and heavy" (cargo types that have unusual height and weight requirements) from Japan and Korea. Read more about the port.
