March Meeting Reports Posted on Mar 14th, 2015 These reports are a way to let the public know what FOR’s been up to. It’s also a way that someone can determine if there is any way they’d like to get involved in things. Please contact FOR if you are interested. (Select Volunteer on the "Contact Us" drop down list.)
FOR Director Brian Jones and Environmental Committee Chair Barbara Fratila attended the meeting. Barbara spoke briefly during the Public Comments period about FOR support of the project to build the boat ramp and how FOR SB appreciated the Commissioners' consideration of the contract for the construction of the boat ramp. The approval to award the contract was unanimous.
Although the County notified 16 vendors and advertised in the newspaper for bids for the project, there was only one bidder - Shirley and Sons Construction Co. Inc. The bid was for $108,591. That was under the estimate prepared by the County so the Commissioners awarded the contract. Much appreciation goes to Pct. 4 County Commissioner David Linder who spearheaded the greatly needed boat ramp and dock project.
Attending the event in Austin were Tom and Ange Ronayne, Barbara and Nick Fratila, Marilyn Shockley, Adalia and Valroy Maudlin, Wayne and Vick Head, Brian Jones and Judge Jerri Lee Mills. FOR representatives met with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to dicuss details of the FOR SB conservation easement.
FOR donated $700 for a truck load of bottled water to be handed out at Brazoria County Day 2015. The labels on the bottles have the FOR logo and the Brazoria County Day logo. Some of the "World's Largest Shrimp Cocktail" was washed down with FOR water.
