“In March 2006, I volunteered to continue the collection of San Bernard River Data, a project that had been started by Eileen Kenneda in 2002 during a flood. The project had started because there was no easily available historical data for the river height and flow data manually recorded at the Sweeny barge terminal. At that time only 2 or 3 days data was available on the NOAA website (now it’s 10 days), so the data had to be collected almost daily or it would be lost.  This was my first involvement with what was to become the Friends of the River San Bernard. I have continued to collect the data and added water temperature I observe from my occasional boat ride on the river. From the graph of the data, it can be seen that the number of relatively minor floods has decreased dramatically due to prolonged Texas drought.”  - Bob Bailey, FOR Treasurer
