Dredging mouth open back on track
Posted on Feb 16th, 2023

According to the Brazoria County “Cost Share Agreement - San Bernard River Dredging” permit proposal, the area outlined in red at the opening at the mouth is to be expanded. Modification of the dredging permit proposes altering the continued shoaling at the mouth of the river by expanding the dredge template where the river exits into the Gulf of Mexico.

Mike Goodson, FOR Mouth Committee Chair, attended Tue Feb 14th Brazoria Commissioners Court meeting where the permit proposal to continue funding the permit to redo opening the mouth permit was approved. The permit proposal's engineering and environmental cost is estimated at $68,000. This cost is to be shared on a 50/50 basis with Port Freeport. The new dredging permit to redo opening the mouth will allow a much larger area to be opened than previously dredged at the mouth and Gulf of Mexico intersection.

When can we expect the dredging to begin. Seems like it goes from one year to the next. Herbert Divin
