A group of FOR Directors, Committee Chairs and spouses gathered together during the regular Wednesday Board business meeting. Followed was Christmas fun and food brought by attendees plus an entertaining gift exchange. |
- Tue Dec 7 Port Freeport CAP mtg, Angleton HS CTE Bldg
FOR Directors Tom Ronayne and Linda Wright attended the Port Freeport Community Advisory Panel meeting at the Angleton High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) building. Following a meal prepared by Culinary Arts HS students, Port Freeport Commissioners introduced C.A.P. members. Angleton ISD Superintendent Phil Edwards, gave extensive facts regarding how the school district is aligning positively with the community and how it's preparing for tremendous growth in the next ten years. Phyllis Saathoff, Port CEO, closed with “it’s been a phenomenal year for the Port”. A tour of the CTE building followed ending the evening’s event.
- Sat Dec 2 Breakfast on the Bernard (BOB), Dido's Restaurant
Thirty-five hungry folks attended Saturday’s Breakfast on the Bernard. Vice President Sheila Wardlaw welcomed the attendees and introduced several candidates running for office. She called attention to the Sat Dec 9th Christmas Boat Parade 6:00 pm start. Lighted decorated boats gather first at 5:30 pm above FM 521 bridge. The San Bernard Santa toy drive continues for another couple of weeks and collection boxes are just inside Dido’s Restaurant.
Discussion was held on the proposed Proposed Non-Human Primate Importation, Breeding and Warehousing Facility planned by Charles River Laboratories on land 1.5 miles west of the San Bernard River on CR 2 (Sulfur Ditch Road) at Danciger. Speakers included FOR Director Tom Ronayne, FOR Environmental Committee Chair Justin Hillis, river residents Cathy MacDonald and Bert Smith. Several good suggestions from the attendees were made and noted. Friends of the River (FOR) SB is closely following the situation. Watch for updates as they develop.
