The Dam Report
Posted on Dec 2nd, 2020
The Phillips 66 saltwater incursion dam, located two miles upstream from Hanson County Park, separates the tidal and non-tidal portions of the San Bernard watershed. The purpose of the dam is to prevent saltwater from the Gulf from reaching the upper portions of the San Bernard that supplies water to Phillips 66 for industrial uses. Known then as Phillips Petroleum, it purchased the river rights to the San Bernard from Texas Gulf.

The Dam on 11-21-20 shows little rain for six weeks but still some some of hurricane Beta water trickling over.
About two weeks later, on 12-1-20, enough rain has fallen to completely cover the dam.

Note: What's upriver comes downriver (eventually). A rusty refrigerator was spotted recently floating across from Hanson Riverside County Park. From its condition it was estimated that it went into the river three years, three months and four days ago.
