Hurricane Flood Waters Entering Gulf Along Coast
Posted on Dec 4th, 2017
At the Sat Dec 2 “Breakfast on the Bernard”, Shane Pirtle, Port Freeport Commissioner, shared a couple of images showing the wide-spread inundation of Hurricane Harvey floodwaters from Port Freeport to the San Bernard. The satellite photo “Historic Rainfall – San Bernard R., Brazos River & Freeport Harbor” shows the brown flood waters entering the Gulf at Port Freeport, the Brazos River and Cedar Lake Cut but not the San Bernard. Sometime later, around September 3rd, the mouth gave way to the pressure of the floodwaters and has remained open since but is rapidly closing again. See photo of mouth taken on Dec 1st below.
