Monkeying Business on the River

Plans have been proposed by Charles River Laboratories to build a large facility to house primate laboratory animals (monkeys) for developing new medicines on 538 acres of land off CR 2 and FM 1301 at Danciger, Brazoria County. This would generate large amounts of biological waste. The area is low-lying, environmentally sensitive land inclined to flooding and the biological would drain into the San Bernard River Watershed and the river. A San Bernard Wildlife Refuge is also adjacent to the property.

Brazoria County has regulations concerning maintenance of restricted wild animals which includes monkeys. Please attend and voice your opinion at Commissioners Court on Tuesday, Nov 28 at 9:00 am. A Charles River Laboratories representative may attend the meeting to give their perspective.
