Fall weather patterns will be in full effect once these lower temperatures start to enter the water column. Trout will start to migrate from their deep-water refuges due from the hot summer days, to shallow waters to feed on the baitfish that frequent the warmer shallow waters with the help of the sunshine. Once the cold really sets in you can depend on the bigger trout to move into the deeper water systems when feeding patterns start to slow. Twitch baits, soft plastics on the bottom, and top waters will be popular as the water starts to cool. Be sure to slow your retrieve and look for those better pockets of better saltwater holding during the transition months.

 

Redfish are holding strong in the lights at night and tend to hit the shallows just before last light when water temps reach the peaks. Be patient for them to show and fast-moving tides will continue to play to your advantage.

 

Please always be courteous to the owners of fishing lights when the owners are fishing. I am sure they will let you participate in the later hours when they retire. At a minimum communicate your intentions and put yourself in their shoes when entering the area.
