RIVER ADVISORY
Posted on Oct 22nd, 2015

  • Tue, Oct 27, 8:00 pm, water level remains at approx 2’ above normal high tide with the current speed at two mph. North wind picked up awhile later to help push water out. A couple more days of above normal level of water before it drains out to the Gulf.
FOR President calls COE
  • Mon Oct 26, 1:30 pm, The west gate of the Brazos River Floodgates, located four miles east of the San Bernard on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway has been closed during the day, Monday through Friday due to repairs. It was reported that the (flood) water is 4’ higher on the San Bernard side of the closed gate and is contributing to gliding (pooling) on the lower Bernard and Jones Creek areas of the river.
Today, FOR President Mike Goodson called the Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, and County Commissioners Dude Payne and David Linder, asking to open the west gate to ease the problem. Hopefully the west gate will be opened today. See below...
  • Mon Oct 26, 2:00 pm, COE refuses to open west gate
  • Sun Oct 25, 8:30 am, add another 5.5” inches of rain overnight to yesterday’s 3” for a total of 8.5” rainfall. The water level of the river (midway between FM 521 bridge and FM 2611 bridge) is approx 2’ above normal level. Current river speed is 3 mph with a northwest wind helping push it downriver. Not much floating debris seen.
Note: There is always a link to flood information at the bottom of this page. "NOAA Hydrological Prediction..." that shows the amount of up-river water you can expect to flow by your house in a day or two.
  • Sat Oct 24, 5:00 pm, 3" rain and a tornado watch for this area. River remains bankful, no flooding yet.
  • Fri Oct 23, 9:15 am, water level remains same as yesterday
  • Thu Oct 22, 1:00 pm, flooding conditions caused by high tide pushed by southeast wind
Upper river - Hanson Riverside County Park (Hwy 35): Tide is 6" above the salt water dam just north of the park. Boaters using Hanson ramp should watch for large tree trunks that have floated out from the banks.
