Phillips 66 Drilling and Pipeline Construction
Posted on Oct 12th, 2014
![]() At the Oct. 4th, Breakfast on the Bernard, Jonathan Hynson, Project Integration Manager, Phillips 66 Midstream, spoke about the injection wells and pipeline that are under construction on CR 506 and are part of the new expansion of the Freeport Terminal. This was clarification of the location of the wells from an earlier meeting with Phillips 66 on July 8, 2014.
Drilling of storage wells is currently underway at the Clemens facility. The wells will hold natural gas liquids (propane, butane, etc.) This process is known as salt leaching that forms caverns by pumping water into salt domes, dissolving the rock into a brine and leaving hollows behind. The drilling will continue through 2015.
The brine pipeline connects the Clemens facility to the brine wells being constructed just west of CR 506. The injection wells, drilled to a depth of 7,000 feet, will receive the salt water (brine) from the washing of the storage wells at the Clemens facility.
