Valroy Maudlin attended the "Meeting of the Monitors" conference on Friday Sept. 30 in Clear Lake. Valroy is a Texas Stream Team monitor. He collects monthly data from the San Bernard about the water quality. That information is forwarded to government agencies in order to help make environmentally sound decisions.
“The displays were arranged around the walls of the main meeting room of the conference. So during breaks and lunchtime the participants had the opportunity to view them and also it gave me a chance to see the presentations. We had about 30 people visit our exhibit and maybe ten of those took a copy of the latest newsletter and our brochure. I was somewhat surprised and pleased that so many there knew of the San Bernard because most of the participants were involved with other watersheds. The presentations in the morning were about three other Watershed Protection Plans. At lunch Todd Running from the Houston-Galveston Area Council talked about "The importance of Volunteer Monitoring". The afternoon talks were about "Effective Strategies in Stakeholder Facilitation & Conflict Resolution". From 4:00 to 6:00 pm was to be an Exhibition and Networking Session, however by that time most people had seen the exhibits and only a few stayed, none until 6. The event was worth F.O.R.'s participation.” –Valroy Maudlin
