The San Bernard River Banshee Returns with her Ghoulish Crew

I awoke in the middle of the night with my head throbbing, my heart pounding, and my hands sweating. I have had these feelings before when my sixth sense kicks into action. Although I would have preferred staying under the covers on All-hallows Eve, I forced myself out of bed and wandered in the direction I was driven. Out on the dock, I heard a malevolent scream and saw the San Bernard River boiling and spewing and then out of the depths came the banshee that had haunted the river in previous years. Her blue inhuman eyes and stringy snake-like hair and green slimy skin appeared first with her mouth screaming imperceptible words as her huge hands made spastic gestures and she gasped for air while the river mud dripped and churned from her green slim-covered tongue and teeth. She was on the prowl once again and she wasn’t happy.
On board were four ghoul slaves. The raccoon-like Captain was silent. It appeared he had no tongue and the old-white-haired lady in the back kept whacking him on the head with her glowing stick with a bloody knife on one end. I sensed that she had cut out his tongue because she’d heard him say, “I want to retire!” one time too many! There was a wanna-be super hero ghoul on the boat with the others, he wanted to be Miller Lite’s sponsor and fly to the moon and back with their logo on his chest. He painted his face blue and a silver stripe down the middle of his white hair, but he was so angry when he was not accepted as their sponsor his face turned bright red as did the stripe and it stayed that way. He was still drinking something out of cans and spewing loud belches up and down the river. The last ghoul was a horrible sight to see; she was dead as a door nail and her face had dripped into a frozen scream – which she did all night long, “Boo!” “Happy Halloween” “Did I scare you?” “Trick or Treat!” CONSTANTLY!
Luckily, for the San Bernard river residents, there were plenty of clever people out who knew that they had to treat the banshee and her crew. The Vacek's gave them shrimp in crescent rolls. Wana and Russell York and David Pope offered margaritas. Kim, Dennis, and Neal fed appetizers and offered beverages galore, but the best of the best came from the Holman crew – they had everything the ghost crew needed! They won first place because they knew what the old lady needed and had it! Even though they tied up their stock for fear of thievery from the ghost boat -- they had plenty to offer!
Be careful – because as I watched the banshee and her crew slip below the surface after midnight, I heard them shriek and gurgle that they’d be back and expect more next year. I hope my nerves can take it once again.
