Mouth Photo Jan 17, 2021
Posted on Jan 19th, 2021

Aerial Photos A.G. "Bert" Smith
Jan 17, 2021. The mouth of the San Bernard at low tide shows numerous sand bars inside the channel. White specs on horizon are oil storage tanks near Jones Creek. Inside the yellow circle, a 4 WD vehicle has made its way up the beach from Sargent. County has scheduled bids to dredge the mouth for May 2021.

Jan 17, 2021. Cedar Lakes, located between the San Bernard River and Sargent, TX., are part of the San Bernard Wildlife Preserve. The area is shallow with a treacherous soft mud bottom.

Visible is the Cedar Lakes Cut, (marked in the photo) a tidal inlet to the Gulf. It was dry when the photo was taken due to the low winter tides. It can be crossed in a 4x4 vehicle but isn’t something that should be taken lightly. Walk the Cut to check the depth before crossing. Caution should be used at all times and is not recommended when higher tides are present.
