M/V Cochran

Seen recently on the river, towboat boat M/V Cochran pushes a barge downriver having just passed under the Churchill Bridge.
The Cochran was built in 2007 by Hope Services in Dulac, La. for Higman Barge Lines, Houston. At that time, she was named the MV Gretchen T. and ten years later, she was renamed MV Gretchen C. Then a year later, when Higman was acquired by Kirby Corporation, Channelview, the tug was renamed the MV Cochran. Could that have been for Senator Thad Cochran, R-Mississippi, a strong advocate for national defense and "a courtly voice for cooperation and civility in American politics”.
She is a twin screw towboat, powered by two, Cummins KTA38-M1 diesel engines rated at 2,000 horsepower and now that maybe she’s named after a man, her weight doesn't have to be a secret at 144 gross tons.
