Seen on the River

As a large semi truck speeds over the FM 521 bridge, the J&S workboat “11” carefully pushes a barge carrying a drag line excavator through the narrow passage under the bridge.

Meanwhile, two smaller push boats following the J&S boat, paused momentarily to allow a deckhand to leap from one boat to the other, almost not making it. These smaller vessels also have knees like the bigger towboats. Knees are the large plates mounted to the bow for pushing barges. In this case, they assisted by manhandling the long dredging discharge pipelines that followed behind the dredge.
