The FOR San Bernard Environmental Committee will be presenting five programs throughout the year on environmental subjects. Each will be FREE to the public, feature "subject matter experts" on the topics, and include plenty of question and answer time so that each participant gets the information he or she needs. Door prizes will be awarded at each program.
The first program will be presented by Brazoria County Master Gardener John Flickinger “Grow the Best Spring Vegetable Garden”. It covers the when, where and how for planting a successful local spring vegetable garden. Emphasis will be on those varieties especially right for the Brazoria County area. Advice will include when to choose starter plants versus seeds for a bountiful crop.
Brazoria County Master Gardeners Dana Morise-Arnold and Sandy Hurst will give a presentation on “Rain Water Collection and Use”. Learn how to harvest all that rain that runs down your gutters to use for watering your garden during droughts. Concepts will be described for the economic collection and storage of this valuable resource. In addition, a hands-on demonstration will be presented for the efficient distribution of collected water for irrigating plants, shrubs and trees.
Watch the FOR website for these additional programs in the upcoming months - Boater Safety Training, mid-May, CPR Training, Maintenance of Septic Systems, and Fishing the San Bernard.
