  • Jan 22, FOR friends attended the Natural Resources Damage Assessment meeting in Galveston
  • Jan 29, FOR Vice President attends Houston-Galveston Area Council's Clean Water Initiative Workshop on OSSFs (On-site Sewage Facilities) and Water Quality, Houston

  • Feb 13, FOR Vice President attends quarterly ChevronPhillips Chemical and Phillips66 Community Advisory Panel, Old Ocean
  • Feb 15, “Septic System” program, the first of a series of FOR Environmental Committee educational programs held at FOR Community Center, open to the public
  • Feb 15, six volunteers collected trash on FM 2611
  • Feb 22, FOR annual State of the River meeting. Barbara Fratila and Vanessa Taylor awarded 2014 Ralph Primeau Memorial Award
  • Feb 25, eleven FOR San Bernard representatives attend Brazoria County Commisioners Court, County Courthouse, Angleton. A brief was submitted to each member of the Court prior to the meeting in support of the mouth opening and stabilization project. The Commissioners voted unanimously to hire Dannenbaum Engineering to begin preparation of a grant application for RESTORE Act funds to dredge open the mouth and build protective jetties to keep it open.

  • Six $1,00 winners of the FOR San Bernard Watershed Scholarship Program announced
  • May 16, FOR San Bernard Ranger Program presented a watershed program to 145 fifth grade students, Wharton Elementary
  • May 17, nineteen volunteers including Sweeny High School Interact Club pick-up fifty bags of roadside trash of two miles of FM 2611
  • May 18, twelve friends enjoy a moving feast, a river-style progressive dinner, an auction item purchased at FOR fundraiser

  • FOR Community Center’s old concrete pad replaced with with wider area of concrete designed to accommodate wheelchair accessibility to the building, paid for with a 2013 FOR fundraiser $5,000 Dolphin Sponsorship
  • Jun 14, “Water Quality”, fourth FOR Environmental Committee program held at FOR Community Center, open to the public
  • Jun 24, page 15 of THE WEEKLY BULLETINFriends of the River San Bernard was quoted in the Brazoria County Parks Dept. monthly section, "…The Friends of the River San Bernard group has been particularly supportive of the project (boat ramp at Hanson Park) citing improved river access and the needs of residents in being able to extract boats from the river during storm and flood events…”

  • Jul 8, 31 people attend meeting concerning proposed action of of six disposal wells being drilled during the upcoming year at the Phillips 66 Clemens Field on the San Bernard River, Dido’s Restaurant
  • Jul 11, San Bernard mouth restoration engineering team takes two-hour tour of closed mouth of river analyzing environmental conditions needed for purposes of reopening the mouth
August
  • Breakfast on the Bernard held on first Saturday of month. Christopher W. Sallese, retired Colonel from USACE Galveston, now with Dannenbaum Engineering, give an update on the RESTORE Act funded project of dredging open the mouth of the river.

  • Oct 21, Environmental Committee Chairman Barbara Fratila, FOR President Tom and Ange Ronayne, met with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and reviewed accomplishing FOR’s conservation easement goals.
  • Oct 25, Dinner and libations river cruise for ten, a FOR San Bernard fundraiser auction item
  • Oct 27, FOR Director participated in a Texas Railroad Commission mandated emgency drill simulating two leaks from old storage caverns located at the Chevron Phillips Chemical Clemens Terminal
  • Oct 29, FOR Webmaster attended H-GAC workshop on how to make the most of what you do on the web more discoverable.
November

  • Nov 8, twenty bags of trash picked up on FM 2611 at Churchill Bridge area
  • Nov 13, friends of the river met at an informal noon meeting with Jonathan Hynson, Project Integration Manager, Phillips 66 Midstream who discussed the drilling of the five storage wells at the Clemens Terminal and the drilling of three additional injection brine wells on CR 506
  • Nov 17, two FOR officers attended two-hour H-GAC “Riparian Buffer” workshop, Houston
  • Nov 21, reopening the mouth makes NOAA web site
December
  • Breakfast on the Bernard held on first Saturday of month.
  • December Stream Team Water Quality test report on website
  • Dec 12 & 13, Twenty-eighth annual Christmas Boat Parade and Home Decorating Contest on the river. During the parade, 100 adults and children consumed fifty-five cups of free hot chocolate and coffee along with 120 cookies served at the FOR Community Center.
... and the best part of it all, it brought fun and fulfillment to all who joined in and volunteered!
