Over the past three years, the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) has worked with a group of stakeholders (landowners, business owners, local industry representatives, community organizations, citizens and government officials) to develop a Watershed Protection Plan (WPP) for the San Bernard River.  H-GAC hosted a meeting in Wharton to discuss the WPP and hand out copies of the Plan's Executive Summary booklet.  Representing FOR at the meeting was Tom Ronayne, FOR V.P.   
     Note:  FOR San Bernard Environmental Committee, as part of their series of six environmental programs this year, has scheduled a May program to be held at the FOR Community Center. Copies of the summary will be distributed to the public and a discussion of water quality on the San Bernard will be held. Time and date to be published on the website and in local newspapers.

 

Tom Ronayne, FOR V.P., attended the Houston-Galveston Area Council's Clean Water Initiative Workshop on OSSFs (On-site Sewage Facilities) and Water Quality. It included an overview of the H-GAC OSSF Mapping Project, OSSF Trends in Harris County, Contaminants of Emerging Concern, and Coastal OSSF Reconnaissance, Training and Replacement.  Speakers included H-GAC, Harris County Health Department, Baylor University and Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Services.

 

Mike and Suzanne Goodson, Wayne and Vicki Head, Tom Folger and Tom Ronayne represented FOR at a Natural Resources Damage Assessment (NRDA) public comment meeting in Galveston. The meeting was facilitated by the Department of Interior and included a slide presentation of the NRDA Trustees' Draft Initial Plan for disbursing "early restoration" monies received from the responsible parties to the Deepwater Horizon accident under the Oil Spill Recovery Act. During the public comment portion of the meeting, FOR presented documents justifying a project to open and permanently stabilize the San Bernard River mouth channel.
