Flood Gauges & Fishing
Posted on May 21st, 2026

On Wed morning, May 21, 2026, flood gauges at Hwy 35, Boling and East Bernard (found on “San Bernard River Flood Gauges” www.sanbernardriver.com) were up only slightly with a high tide. By Wednesday evening all gauges were rising as rainfall runoff reached the river. Residents should keep an eye on the gauges located upriver from them as more rain arrives in the next few days.

On Wed May 21, 2026, fishermen were sitting just below the salt water dam on the San Bernard River located near Hwy 35 and West Columbia. In the background is the saltwater dam stretching across the river that is an industrial saltwater barrier owned and operated by Phillips 66 to support its nearby Old Ocean refining operations. It separates the tidal and non-tidal portions of the river plus is home to channel catfish. High tide yesterday afternoon but not a lot of flow, or fish for that matter according to these fellas. Residents should keep an eye on the river above them as more rain arrives in the next few days.
