This permit was completed and approved by the Corps of Engineers on Sept 8, 2025. Funding for this, as well as nine other Brazoria county projects was approved by the General Land Office this week. Stay tuned for more up information as the project moves forward .

Grantworks speakers Margarita Garza and Jay Francis described the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Program that funds projects to lift houses out of flood danger. One hundred homes in Brazoria County have been lifted to date, with funds available for another 200 homes including 5 or 6 homes on the San Bernard river. Two of those river families were present to answer questions of their experiences and share photos, which were many!

VP Denise Wolever led the election of directors with Phil Brod, Mike Goodson and Art deTranaltes reelected for a second 3-yr term, and Gary Kersh and Matt Koenig joining the board as new directors.

Ending the meeting was a drawing for two -12 ounce FOR tumblers with the lucky winners being Susan Pierce and Ted Muilenburg.

Wrapping up the meeting, Kirk Wardlaw auctioned off an “Upside-Down” German Chocolate Cake to the highest bidders Tom and Ange Ronayne. Here, winner Tom wonders if wife Ange is holding the cake the correct way up.
