- Tues Feb 27 Port Freeport CAP meeting, ABC Building, Freeport Tx
FOR Director Linda Wright and spouse Ken attended the Port Freeport Community Advisory Panel meeting. Port CEO Phyllis Saathoff gave an update on current expansion happening at the port to accommodate future demands. Two items planned is the deepening of the jetty channel entrance to 4 nautical miles further offshore to a 56ft depth and deepening the Container Terminal area depth from 46ft to 51ft.
Also speaking was Captain Ross Coviello, Brazos Pilots Association, who described navigating vessels, including the world’s largest LNG vessels, into Port Freeport 365 days a year, day or night, seven days a week, 24 hrs a day. Plus, the added excitement getting onboard an incoming vessel by jumping on to the pilot ladder attached to the other moving vessel. In other words, how does a pilot board a moving vessel - very carefully!
