Photos show FM 522 Black’s Ferry Bridge looking north (upriver San Bernard) on Fri Feb 2, 2024.
The passage between the FM 522 (Black's Ferry) bridge fenders is completely blocked with logs, dock pieces, trash, a dead hog and other debris. The snag extends 30 feet upriver from the bridge and all the way under it to the downriver side.
When advised of the issue this morning, Commissioner David Linder contacted TxDOT and was told they have a contractor who specializes in this sort of debris removal. There are other bridges in a similar condition throughout the area so they couldn't say precisely when removal would happen, but the San Bernard is on the list.
Prior notice to the removal of the debris, river residents will be warned of the removal as the trees and large pieces are plucked out of the water from above, smaller debris will undoubtedly escape and float downriver creating a boating hazard.
FOR will communicate updates as they are available
