President Kirk Wardlaw conducted the Annual Meeting & Election of Directors on Sat Sep 17th, 5:00pm at Dido’s Restaurant patio. Fifty friends attended and kept their table's “lazy susan” spinning because of the delicious Alaskan salmon caught and donated to the annual meeting by FOR VP John Swanson.

VP John Swanson, sporting a nautical Captain's cap gives an “all hands on deck” order to the audience for the upcoming Oct 1st “Sail Away on the MV SanBernard” fantasy cruise-themed FOR fundraiser. Don’t miss it! You’ll make the best friendSHIPS on the river at this event.

“We did our best. We are not giving up and are committed to getting it done.”

In June of this year, Brazoria County announced that the dredging of the mouth was completed, although, there was “significant sediment inflow into several sections that had already been dredged.” This was blamed on the “lack of flow from the San Bernard watershed due to the lack of rain.“ As it stands now, there is a tidal exchange of water at the mouth, but remains too shallow for boat traffic use.

“It’s my community and I’ll take care of it to help out.”

Speaker Fire Chief Al Roth, River’s End Volunteer Fire Department reported the two fire stations at River’s End and Las Playas, do not answer emergency phone calls at that location but they do have trained EMT volunteers who respond not only to fires but other emergency calls.
Chief Roth said when making a 911 call from your cell phone it’s important to know your exact location so local authorities can pinpoint where you are. The dispatcher might not be able to use your phone to find you, so it's especially important to know where you are and where the person who needs help is located. This is especially true when a boating emergency on the river happens and a location on land is needed.
