A giant sandbar stretches across the mouth of the San Bernard obstructing all but a narrow shallow stream of water flowing out to the Gulf of Mexico. Four or five recreational boats are tied up on the inside curve of the sand bar. A shoal or submerged ridge, can be seen just upriver from the sand bar. To keep from running aground, caution should be used by sticking to the east side of the river channel. Compare May 14th photo.
