For immediate release. Please announce the following not-for-profit event:
Friends Of the River San Bernard Hope to “Raise” Public Awareness… and Funds
What do you see as the future of the
San Bernard River? Friends Of the River San Bernard (F.O.R. San Bernard) see
it as a legacy to future generations. True to its mission statement, F.O.R.
is working hard to restore, protect and promote the river’s natural habitat,
but it takes money. So, F.O.R. is raising public awareness and funds at its
third annual River Raiser on Sunday, October 26 at the Knights of Columbus
Hall located at 20632 N. Highway 36 in Brazoria from noon - 3 p.m.
F.O.R. is continuing its activities for the community and the river. F.O.R. remains vigilant in the efforts to reopen the mouth of the San Bernard River, river clean-ups, parades and public meetings. Volunteers up and down the river have qualified to do water quality testing for Texas Stream Team, are investigating watershed protection plans, and have initiated a youth river steward program, F.O.R. Rangers. F.O.R. sponsors bi-monthly seminars at The F.O.R. Community Center covering topics of interest to the community and are currently investigating working in conjunction with Brazoria Co. to repave the boat ramp on the San Bernard River at F.M. 521.But funds need to be secured to keep the wheels of progress moving forward – hence River Raiser.
River Raiser is planned with the whole family in mind. Live entertainment, Ronnie Coleman, begins at noon as lunch is served. Lunch will consist of roast beef, mashed potatoes and all the trimmings for $10.00 a plate donation (children under 10 eat free) – tickets sold at the door. Take out is available. A silent auction will begin at noon and runs through 3 p.m. A live auction begins at 2 p.m. followed by a raffle drawing for the following: 1st prize – 50” Panasonic plasma HDTV, 2nd prize – stainless steel grill / portable kitchen, 3rd prize, 10” WiFi digital picture frame, and 4th prize - $200.00 gas card. A full (and updated) list of auction items can be previewed at: http://www.sanbernardriver.com/events/fund_raiser/2008_auction_items.htm
But no fund raiser can be a success without the community’s support. Hurricane Ike and a downturn in the economy has us all hanging on to every cent, but this fund raiser is about the community. For this reason, F.O.R. is requesting the community’s help in setting up and manning the fund raiser as well. If you have an auction item, please consider donating it to the cause. If you need someone to pick up the item, that can be arranged by contacting Chairman C.K. Millsap at the numbers below. If you can volunteer some time to help out, or for more information go to: http://www.sanbernardriver.com/events/fund_raiser/2008_volunteer_list.htm to sign up to help, or contact River Raiser Chairman, C.K. Millsap at 979-417-5584 or riverraiser@sanbernardriver.com.
