Who Has the Biggest Mouth?
Posted on Apr 6th, 2013

A. Colorado River. The Colorado River has the biggest mouth! Off shore enthusiasts can exit the mouth of the Colorado through the new, deep jetties into the Gulf of Mexico located just south of Matagorda.

B. San Bernard River. The mouth has been completely closed since December, 2012.  It flows easterly into the ICWW but has been seen flowing on occasion to the west into the ICWW. See “Clash of the Currents”. The mouth was dredged open in February 2010 and was predicted to stay open 6-12 years but it closed again in less than half that time. Meanwhile, Federal funding for authorized maintenance projects has been drastically reduced over the past few years.

C. Brazos River. There is a large sandbar located on the NE side of the mouth. It may be tempting to wade it but don't! The currents are unpredictable and can get really strong really fast with no warning.
