Dock Hop all set to go
Saturday

BRAZORIA — Get ready to
come out and meet your neighbors with a
river-style National Night Out — a Dock Hop.
For the past two years, Friends of the River
San Bernard, known as FOR, has encouraged
friends and neighbors to participate in
National Night Out with a Dock Hop. This
year, National Night Out moved to October,
but FOR’s plans were made before the change,
so the Dock Hop will be from 6 to 8 p.m.
Saturday as originally planned.
Traditionally, National Night Out-style
functions are designed to:
• Heighten crime and drug prevention
awareness;
• Generate support for local anti-crime
programs;
• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and
police-community partnerships;
• Send a message to criminals by letting
them know neighborhoods are organized and
committed to watch for one another.
The San Bernard River community is not your
traditional neighborhood, It is linear
community woven together by the river. Since
the river is too long for all our neighbors
to meet, the group is designating “hosting”
areas so everyone can meet as many of
neighbors as possible.
All “hosting” will occur between the FM 521
bridge and the FM 2611 bridge. Those living
on the Sweeny side of the river between the
bridges will play host to neighbors on their
boat docks.
Those on the Brazoria side of the river
between the bridges will be the
dock-hoppers, and can take boats from one
neighbor’s dock to the next.
If living on the Sweeny or west side of the
river but outside the bridges, residents can
drive to the FOR Community Center at 20450
CR 510-B. Residents are encouraged to bring
snacks or beverages and “host” from there.
If living anywhere on the Brazoria or east
side of the river, boaters can hop to a
neighbor’s dock anywhere between the
bridges. Those without boats can drive to
the community center.
Hosts are asked to prepare their best
snacks, desserts or beverages for guests
because a poll on the best treats will be
conducted following the event on
www.sanbernard
river.com and prizes will be awarded.
