Adopt-a-Highway cleanup set

Summer is here and more people are traveling to the San Bernard Refuge and FM 2918 boat ramp some leaving reminders of their visits. Friends Of the River San Bernard is looking for 12 volunteers to help clean up 2 miles of FM 2918 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday as part of the groups quarterly commitment to the Texas Department of Transportation Adopt-a-Highway program.

Children 7 to 14 years old must be supervised by a parent. The state requires that no children younger than 7 participate.

Volunteers will meet at 10 a.m. at Bernard Grocery, where chairman Pat Jankowiak will distribute safety vests, bags, trash poles and give final instructions before beginning the cleanup at 10:30 a.m.

Participants should bring mosquito spray, sunscreen, hats, gloves and boots. Trash bags and cold water will be provided. A picnic lunch will be provided for volunteers following the event. In the event of rain, the clean up will be Friday.

For information, or to volunteer, call Jankowiak at (979) 964-3168 or e-mail adopthighway@sanbernardriver.com .
