After a heavy debris collection April 20 and 23, volunteers collected household
trash in and along the river Saturday. This year, 214 volunteers joined the
effort, bringing 57 boats to the basin.

Beach cleanup a success
More than 14 tons of trash were collected by 836 volunteers along 15 miles of
Brazoria County beach Saturday during the 21st annual Texas Adopt-a-Beach
cleanup, the Texas General Land office said.
“It was very successful. The beach is a whole lot cleaner now,” said Linda
Manning of Surfside Beach and president of Save our Beach Association, which
participated in the effort.
Manning said the beach already was fairly clean, and Saturday’s effort just
topped it off beautifully, she said.
According to the GLO, 21,275 pounds of trash was collected along Surfside Beach
and 7,575 pounds were collected by crews covering Quintana and Bryan beaches.
The next cleanup is scheduled for September.
