Port responsible for
Surfside Beach erosion

I have lived in Surfside for 10 years.
I have watched the vegetation and beach lines move back and forth. The homes that are on the front line are not the cause of the erosion of the beach. Those houses did not move closer to water. The sand eroded and the water has come closer to the homes.

When they built the jetties, the port became responsible for putting sand back in front of those houses, because they changed the direction of the river.

We could have free sand put back and unclog the San Bernard at the same time. This also would save taxpayers thousands of dollars. Eventually, the next row of houses will surely be in jeopardy from the erosion.

The port needs to clean up its mess and the Corps of Engineers needs to clean up its mistakes. The city of Surfside needs to defend the residents who support this city and staff.

There is nothing but economics and greed going on.
